IN PROGRESS
SIMILK BAY
We at Castanes Architects call this the “sanctuary” home. This contemporary hillside residence is planned to embrace the views towards Smilik Bay, while offering “inner” courtyards that one walks by when going from one space to another. As always, the attention paid to details is of a high importance. The client paid special attention to the kitchen where it is being designed for a “step and pivot” approach to cooking. The layout of the appliances in relationship to the work counters is of particular importance when designing with the “step and pivot” concept. Completion of this project is scheduled for fall 2010.
OLYMPIA RESIDENCE
Located on the Puget Sound, this wonderfully sited residence and guest cottage is being totally gutted for a modern/traditional interior and exterior. We are restructuring the roof for higher interior ceilings on the main floor, and demolishing the lower floor slab for higher ceilings at the ground level. We just completed the guest house which is now a cozy “getaway from it all” place to be!!!!!!!!!
ROANOKE RESIDENCE
This inner city urban dwelling features terrific views to the Portage Bay and beyond. This existing 1920’s home is being altered to accommodate a new upper floor area, and a new lower level dwelling unit with a kitchenette in the “once was” basement. The addition of the upper level will feature a new master bedroom with views towards Portage Bay, a master dressing area and bathroom, music/video/audio room, exercise room and powder room. It’s going to be a really fun house to live in.
LAKE WASHINGTON ‘PROJECT-B’
A very small (around 850 sf) Lake Washington waterfront site is the location for a very contemporary two bedroom home. The site is very restrictive therefore Castanes Architects are approaching the City of Seattle with a design that features an extended cantilevered portion of heated living area over (and beyond) the bulkhead. Stay tuned!!!!
McGILVRA RESIDENCE
Phase 1
This Lake Washington waterfront property has been in the family for many generations. The owner’s requested Castanes Architects to renovate and add a new master bedroom addition to the existing guest residence located on the property. In a relatively short time, Castanes Architects was able to acquire a building permit to start construction in summer 2008. Note: Construction was complete Winter 2009 and the elders of the family moved to the Guest House
Phase 2
Construction for the Main House remodel began in late summer of 2009 and is making outstanding progress. Remodel components include a new Media Room, Kitchen and Master Suite.
