Ballet in one act
Sunday, October 19th, 2008For my first blog posting I am going to write about the ballet I saw last night.
It is not architecture, but it was inspiring, thoughtful, and pushed the imagination… something architecture can certainly do too.
The ballet was “Orpheus and Eurydice” by COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD at On the Boards. The stage was completely white and used lighting within the space to create a general ambiance. The stark background also let the dancers silhouettes, costumes, and facial expressions be the main focus. In the beginning, I was trying to fins come “meaning” or “plot”, but then after a the second act, I just sat back and enjoyed it for what it was; a raw expression of human form, emotion, and universal secrets. Sounds amazing and mysterious, because it was.
The program explains it better: “The architecture of the cosmos, the inner intelligence of the body and the inexhaustible complexity of its articulations and mutations harmonize in formally accomplished constructions in which style and substance are in perfect resonance.”
